Nova Scotia highway webcams are operated by the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR). Most are mounted on tall steel towers, most of which have weather sensors included on the tower. The sensors measure temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and wind direction and speed.
The webcam pic below is more or less real time and will update every 30 to 40 minutes, depending on conditions.
The Lake Echo highway camera is mounted on the south side of Highway 107 about 75 metres west of the overpass for Mineville Road. About a half kilometre west of Lake Echo, the camera looks west toward the eastern outskirts of Dartmouth, only 5 or 6 kilometres further down the road.
