The presence of the Grey Nuns in Châteauguay dates back to 1765 when Marguerite d'Youville, founder mother, acquired the Lordship of Châteauguay, which included St. Bernard island.

In 2011, the Grey Nuns sold the mound that belonged to them to the City of Châteauguay. The last two nuns were relocated to Montreal in 2014 and ensure that they will return to the Manoir d'Youville as a client. "And if it's not in our lifetime, it is sure that it will be after," says Sister Saint-Germain, referring to the cemetery is located on a hill of the island where the Grey Nuns rest forever.

And this is where I found my two centenarians.

The cemetery is on a hill overlooking the St. Lawrence River to the west and a beautiful orchard to the east. It contains hundreds of tombstones, and many more mortal remains of the Grey Nuns who are buried there.

Sister Adéline Grégoire St-Bernard was born in 1876 and died in 1978. She was 101 or 102 years old when she passed away.
