This old anchor comes off the ship 'Dunbar' which was a full-rigged ship that was wrecked near the entrance to Sydney Harbour, Australia in 1857 with the loss of 121 lives.
The wreck of the Dunbar, with the loss of 121 passengers and crew, is one of Australia's worst maritime disasters in peacetime.

The disaster is remembered each year by memorial services held at St Stephen's Church in Newtown, where many Dunbar victims were buried in a mass grave.
