In der Mitte der Windrose ist der Längen- und Breitengrad exakt dieser Stelle benannt. Entstanden ist dieses Symbol in den 1980-er Jahren beim Ausbau des Platzes. Die Idee zu der Windrose hatte die Marine-Kameradschaft Herten, die damit ihre Verbundenheit zur Schifffahrt bzw. zum Patenschiff ‚Herten‘ symbolisieren wollte.
