Railtown 1897, located in Jamestown in the heart of California's Gold Country, preserves the memory of the Sierra Railway, built in 1897 to supply the mining and timber industries of California's mother Lode.
In 1982 the California Department of Parks and Recreation purchased all of the Jamestown facilities of Sierra Railway and reopened the site as Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. |

The park has several historical train wagons on display and features the only remaining repair facility for steam engines in North America.
Main attractions are tours of the round house and 45 minute-long train rides.
The park also hosts a small museum and a souvenir store.

In 2011, the park, together with 66 other parks, was supposed to be closed due to state budget cuts. However, local enthusiasts and volunteers ensured the funding of the park.
