Schwarzenberkové patrili mezi nejvýznamnejší šlechtické rody v ceských zemích. V roce 1660 získali první ceské panství Trebon. Puvodne se ovšem jednalo o nemecký šlechtický rod pánu ze Seinsheimu, který pocházel z Dolních Frank. Za zakladatele rodu je považován Erkinger (+1437), který na pocátku 15. století koupil panství Schwarzenberg, které pozdeji dalo pojmenování tomuto šlechtickému rodu. Puvodním heraldickým symbolem rodu byly pouze stríbrné a modré pruhy. Další významnou osobností rodu byl hrabe Adolf, který v roce 1598 dobyl tureckou pevnost Raab. Na pamet tohoto cinu získal do schwarzenberského znaku hlavu Turka, které havran ci krkavec klove oko.

The Schwarzenbergs belonged among the most significant noble families in the Czech lands. In 1660, they gained the first Czech dominion - Toeboo. Originally, however, it was a German family of the Lords of Seinsheim which came from Lower Franconia. The founder of the family is considered to be Erkinger (+1437) who bought the Schwarzenberg dominion at the beginning of the 15th century. Later on, this dominion gave its name to this noble family. The original heraldic emblem of the family was just silver and blue stripes. Another significant personage of the family was the count Adolf who conquered Raab, a Turkish fortress. In memory of this battle, he included the head of a Turk with a raven pecking out its eye into his coat-of-arms.

Po dobytí turecké pevnosti Raab v roce 1598 Adolfem ze Schwarzenberku byl v roce 1599 znak doplněn o hlavu Turka, které havran či krkavec klove oko. Roku 1688 došlo k další úpravě erbu, který byl polepšen o symboly dalších panství. Tři červené špice na stříbrném poli symbolizují panství Sulz, které připojil k panství Ferdinand ze Schwarzenberku sňatkem s Marií Annou ze Sulzu. Hořící větev značí panství Brandis. V srdečním štítu erbu jsou znaky panství Schwarzenberg - věž na černé hoře a Kleggau - tři zlaté snopy. Jako štítonoši se zřídka objevují dva zlatí lvi. Knížecí koruna nad znakem značí knížecí titul.
