Sheep wool has been a key part of Australia's economy since the first sheep arrived in the country in 1788.
Sheep farming in Geelong began in 1835, and mills opened in 1868. Geelong then became synonymous with the wool industry and was known as the wool centre of the world.
In 1988 the National Wool Museum was established to showcase the history of the industry.
