This standpipe has been decorated as a mosaic celebrating the birds and the role of irrigation in the Maple Ash neighborhood of Tempe, Arizona. It is part of a public art project designed both to add interest and to record the history of Tempe's older neighborhoods. This part of the project is located at 9th and Wilson St.s in the Mitchell Park East Neighborhood. Bird images include a Cardinal, Lesser Goldfinch and an Owl. In one panel a variety of bird species erupt into flight above the rime of the standpipe. The mosaic was created by local artist Joan Baron in 2007.
