This standpipe has been decorated as a mosaic celebrating the birds and the role of irrigation in the Maple Ash neighborhood of Tempe, Arizona. It is part of a public art project designed both to add interest and to record the history of Tempe's older neighborhoods. This part of the project is located at 9th and Roosevelt St.s in the Mitchell Park East Neighborhood. Bird images include the Gila Woodpecker and Red-Winged Blackbird. The mosaic was created by local artist Joan Baron in 2008 and is composed of ceramic mosaic tile and smalti glass tile.
