As described by the NGS in 1973 (although originally monumented by the CGS in 1955):
"1.2 MI W FROM AUSTIN.
ABOUT 0.3 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST ALONG LAMAR BLVD. FROM THE SOUTH END OF A CONCRETE BRIDGE OVER THE COLORADO RIVER AT AUSTIN, THENCE 0.9 MILES NORTHWEST ALONG RANCH ROAD 2244 BARTON SPRINGS ROAD, AT ZILKER PARK, 98.0 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE JUNCTION WITH STRUTFORD DRIVE, 266.0 FEET NORTH OF A STEEL TOWER BEARING 4-LIGHT 42.5 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A LIGHTPOLE, 38.5 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF RANCH ROAD 2244, 0.35 MILES SOUTHEAST OF 2-OVERPASSES THE STATE HIGHWAY AND PARK ROAD 1, 0.2 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE BENCH MARK Y 1222, 1.0 FEET NORTHEAST OF A METAL WITNESS POST, ABOUT 4.0 FEET ABOVE THE ROAD AND IS A DISK IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST PROJECTING 4-INCHES."
The 1973 description and associated reference points (i.e. distances/directions) are still good references for locating this station, but a few minor corrections might be in order:
* "RANCH ROAD 2244" is now just called "Barton Springs Road"; both references to the old name should be ignored.
* "STRUTFORD DRIVE" is misspelled: it is "Stratford Drive"
* The witness post is no longer present.
All other references and associated distances -- such as the steel tower, the light pole, and "Y 1222" (which is also a waymark: "
WMNQ5T") -- are correct.
Likewise, its associated NGS Data Sheet's posted coordinates are pretty much in line with my own observations: the NGS reports the station at "N 30 16 01.58 W 097 46 15.60" which was quite close to my own readings -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages: "N 30° 16.026 W 97° 46.261".
