"A larger than life-size, middle-aged Marlin Perkins crouches with a pair of binoculars in his proper right hand. He wears a safari shirt-jacket and walking shoes. Imprints of tree leaves are arranged in random order on the base. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base." – Smithsonian Art Inventory
Marlin Perkins was born in Carthage and became best known when he hosted the long-running television program "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom". He served as the director of the St. Louis zoo for many years.
In front of the statue is a plaque with the following text:
