"Theis Attaway Nature Center is a City of Tomball Park with a four-acre nature preserve. The Park was donated and dedicated in memory of A. W. (Allie) Theis by his wife, Thelma Attaway Theis, and their children. The forefathers of the Theis family settled in the Tomball area in 1846. The park is located off of Theis Lane northeast of the Wal-Mart Superstore at 13509 Theis Lane. The Park features:

* Pond – In the 1950s iron ore was dug from this location for use in widening what is now State Highway 249. The iron ore pits became the family swimming and fishing hole. These ponds have been transformed into a wildlife sanctuary for birds and small animals. Aquatic vegetation has been added to supply oxygen and food supply to support the wildlife and fish population. Special wildlife islands have been created in the pond to provide a home for migratory birds. The pond has a walk out pier and makes fishing easier or just takes time to watch the ducks swimming.

* Bird/Wildlife Observation Blind – This blind is built over looking the fishpond and has many wooden box birdhouses surrounding it. By keeping much of the existing woods intact, small mammals such as squirrels and rabbits may be seen. This also keeps intact existing bird habitats.

* Walking Trails – The 6’ wide asphalt-walking trail is focused around preserved wetlands. It is a nice shady stroll averaging about 1/4 mile from start to finish. There are (2) two- nice shaded picnic areas perfect for a little break and there are 5 benches for rest stops along the way.

* Grassy Amphitheater– The small amphitheater is near the front of the park and overlooks the natural pond. The seating area is three stone rows and a little stage area for small entertaining groups. Great for a small gathering or outdoor educational programs."
