Depicted Renaissance-Baroque burgher house N° 41, also called Masné krámy (Masné krámy), is one of several valuable historic houses surrounding main public space of town Kostelec nad Cernými lesy - Námestí Smirických (Square of Smirický').
The core of the building is very old, maybe Gothic, but we only know that it was built by Smirický of Smirice noble family (owners of Kostelec demesne) as Meat market. In the first written record, from 1613, Albrecht Václav Smirický donates house to the Kostelec municipality for Town Hall - this use is firstly confirmed in record from 1668. During the 17th century was Town Hall damaged twice by fire and subsequently rebuilt in Baroque style. Town hall served to its purpose until 1894 despite two further fires (in 1841 and 1891).
House is seat of Town Museum from 1945 and it was completely reconstructed (Baroque arcade was restored) in 1995. From that year You can visit there Museum of Pottery, Gallery and currently also Pizzeria.
