This Smokey Bear Sign indicated "low" fire condition due to cool weather with the possibility of rain. It is located roadside in front of the Station 23 Pend Oreille County Fire District 2.

This fire hall is operated by Pend Oreille County Fire District 2. A relatively new firehouse, it houses at least three firefighting vehicles, their nature unknown. The district operates out of four fire halls with a staff consisting of a paid fire marshal and 48 volunteers, all available to each fire station.

Pend Oreille County Fire Protection District #2 was formed in 1967 and is located in the northern third of Pend Oreille County Washington and encompasses an area of approximately 750 square miles with a population of about 2,000. The District stretches east from the Idaho border and west to the Stevens County line, north from mile marker 400 on state highway 20 to the Canadian border.
