This statue of General Neidhardt von Gneisenau is one of three statues honoring the leading Prussian Generals in the war against Napoleon. (The other two statues feature Generals Yorck and Blücher).

The larger than life bronze statue shows the general, holding a sword and pointing forward with his right arm.

The Statue, designed by sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch was dedicated in 1855. The pedestal was destroyed in World War II, but the statue survived.

Generals Yorck, Blücher and Gneisenau

August Wilhelm Antonius Graf Neidhardt von Gneisenau (1760-1831) was General Blücher's quartermaster-general in the war against Napoleon. The collaboration between Blücher and Gneisenau is considered one of the most harmonious and most successful relationships between a commander and his chief-of-staff in military history.

After the battle of Waterloo, Gneisenau carried out a pursuit that resulted in the capture of Napoleon's carriage.
