In 1308, the maintenance and restoration of the IJsseldijk was organized. Each farm that stood along the dike had to maintain a piece of dike that ran over their lands. This was called 'verhoefslaging' The length of the dike where the farm was responsible for, was commensurate with the size of the territory of the farm.

In 1760 the wooden poles were replaced by stone ones, but whether the four poles along the IJssel between Zwolle and Kampen are so old is not known. On the pole you can find a serial number and it also indicates the length of the territory.

Dike Pole 79. The length of the rail was 103 rod, 1 feet and 5 inch.
