This statue of General Leberecht von Blücher is one of three statues honoring the leading Prussian Generals in the war against Napoleon. (The other two statues feature Generals Yorck and Gneisenau).
The larger than life bronze statue shows the general, holding a sabre with his foot resting on a canon. The Statue, designed by sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch was dedicated in 1826. It is the only one that survived World War II intact including the pedestal, which shows war scenes from Blücher leaving his home town Breslau all the way to the fall of Paris. |
