At the southwest corner of Main and Fourth (401 S. Main) is a lovely Classical building of smooth faced Carthage stone. In the early part of the century, there was a bank on each corner of the Square. This building housed the Carthage National Bank. The inset doorway set between Tuscan columns is particularly attractive. A Palladian window enhances the second floor over the entryway, which is set at an angle. The second floor is partially used, and the remainder is being renovated as an artists' studio. There is a lovely skylight in the rear.
– National Register Nomination
The building appears to be in good condition and is now used as a gift shop.
The building is a contributing building in the Carthage Courthouse Square Historic District.
