The larger than life bronze statue shows the general, resting on his sword.
The original Statue , designed by sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch was dedicated in 1855. That statue was destroyed in World War II. A copy was dedicated in 1964.
He rose to the rank of Field Marshal in the Prussian Army, took part in the crowning victory in the Battle of the Nations in 1813 and eventually sacked Paris in 1815.
