This statue of General Yorck von Wartenburg is one of three statues honoring the leading Prussian Generals in the war against Napoleon. (The other two statues feature Generals Blücher and Gneisenau).

The larger than life bronze statue shows the general, resting on his sword.

The original Statue , designed by sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch was dedicated in 1855. That statue was destroyed in World War II. A copy was dedicated in 1964.

Generals Yorck, Blücher and Gneisenau

Hans Ludwig David Graf Yorck von Wartenburg (1759-1830) was instrumental in forging an alliance between Russia and Prussia that eventually lead to the defeat of Napoleon.

He rose to the rank of Field Marshal in the Prussian Army, took part in the crowning victory in the Battle of the Nations in 1813 and eventually sacked Paris in 1815.
