The Cave Spring School served as the Jasper County Courthouse during 1865 – 1866 due to the courthouse in Carthage being destroyed during the Civil War. The governor state of Missouri declared Cave Spring is the county seat temporarily so County business could be conducted again. During the Civil War school have been used as a Union headquarters for local militia company.
