This picturesque sundial near Fisherman's Beach is a mosaic comprising more than 120,000 Italian glass Tesserae tiles. The mosaic represents the traditional dreaming stories of the indigenous Wathaurong people, with images of flora, fauna, marine
environments, star constellations and local aboriginal stories.
It was commissioned by the Torquay Lions Club in partnership with the Torquay City Council.
Artwork and tiling was done by Clare Gittings, Anne Kalamaris, Glenn Romanis, Kathryn Soanes, Mark Trinham, Kyla Vinton and Steve Vinton.
Garden design was by Jason Rutley and Margaret van Rompaey.
The sundial calculations were made by Ian Sells.
It was unveiled by Lions International in 1996.
You stand in the centre of the design and become the actual dial - the shadow cast by your body tells the time.
Sundial Type: Analemmatic - Vertical gnomon with elliptical dial
