The bridge was officially opened by Kay Hallahan M.L.C.on July 20th 1989, the bridge connects the grassed park on the north bank with the bush conservation area on the south. The bridge is sited over the weir that is designed to keep salt water from flowing any further upstream.
The plaque which is attached to a nearby boulder reads:-

Kay Hallahan was born on 4 November 1941,a former Australian politician (elected from 1983 to 1996). As a member of the Labor Party, she served as a minister in the Burke, Dowding and Lawrence ministries in Western Australia, and was the first woman ever to sit in both the Western Australian Legislative Assembly and the Western Australian Legislative Council.
