What looks to be a tree dedication is actually a memorial for the small area here on Stanford University campus.

Located in the heart of Stanford University is a memorial comprised of a small plaque monumented on top of a small boulder. Although the memorial is located near a small tree, this memorial is NOT a tree dedication. This has been determined by looking at Google Maps which show two benches near this memorial but have both been removed and replaced with a small tree. I believe this memorial which was dedicated in 1972 was intended to designate this small area which probably had a bench or two as a sanctity, a quiet area for students to find time to be at peace. The plaque itself reads:
IN MEMORY OF JAMES GEORGE BAILLIEU
HE SOUGHT PEACE, MAY OTHERS FIND IT HERE
OCTOBER 1948 SEPTEMBER 1972
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA STANFORD UNIVERSITY
I wasn't able to find any additional information on James but can assume that he was part of the Stanford faculty in some manner.
