PITTSBURGH — The Pirates added a final touch to their new ballpark Saturday, unveiling a statue of Hall of Fame slugger Willie Stargell. The 12-foot bronze figure stands, bat in hands, at the entrance to left field where Stargell roamed for more than a decade as a Pirate in Forbes Field and then Three Rivers Stadium. Stargell, 61, lost a long-running battle with a kidney disorder and died Monday. "It's a great day but it's not perfect because Willie's not here," Pirates owner Kevin McClatchy said Saturday. "You could go back the entire history of this organization and not find a player that was more of a Pirate than Willie Stargell." Hundreds of people watched McClatchy, along with general manager Cam Bonifay, former manager Chuck Tanner and former teammate Nelson Briles pull away the shroud covering the statue."
