Hidden in vast English park is one of jewels of Baroque architecture of Central Bohemia, Veltrusy Chateau (Zámek Veltrusy), designed by one of leading architects of Baroque in Bohemia - Giovanni Battista Alliprandi.
The construction of this importasnt piece of Baroque architecture was financed by member of the old Czech noble family and chancellor of the Czech Kingdom - Václav Antonín count Chotek (1674-1754). Chateau (originally only summer residence, which was later substantially extended) is composed from an oval core with four lower radial wings arranged into X-letter shape. At the north side it is adjoined by Cour d'honneur closed by allegoric statues of 12 months and four seasons from Matthias Bernard Braun workshop.
Chateau was in a possesion of the Chotek of Chotkov family until 1945. But the last family members collaborated with Nazi occupation forces during WWII - so after war Chateau was nationalized and currently is administered by National Heritage Institute.
