The plaque can be seen in the picture above between the two windows to the left of the lamppost.
The Geographical Survey of Canada is the body responsible for surveying the borders, lakes, rivers, and all features of Canada. The entire real estate business of Canada is dependent on its benchmark survey points. This building was its first home.
The building is in the Byward Market and is currently used to house a coffee house in addition to other businesses.
