this area on the Bridgewater Canal is near some old mines and subsidence has led to small ponds and lakes forming nearby.

This area is also liable to flooding and there are some automatic flood gates at this point. It is also a place where stop planks can be inserted to aid in flood control.

The graffiti has been painted on th stop planks where they stand ready at the side of the canal.
