Right behind the Ione town hall on Houghton Street is the office of the sheriff.

It's on the corner of Houghton and Central Streets and looks for all the world like a heritage building - the type of building that was, one hundred years ago, a newspaper office or a cobbler's shop. Built of red brick, with a recessed front entry and large display window, it certainly fits the bill. Today it makes a cozy little office for the county sheriff's department.
The Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Department is headquartered in the county seat of Newport, making this one of a handful of substations arrayed through the county.

I have had NO problems with taking photos of Police stations but please respect the fact that some services may be nervous about having their photo taken and inquire as to why... I have found that once things are explained they are more than happy to let me photograph the building, crest, chief... (they are people too!)
