THE BUILDING:


The building was designed and constructed in the years 1935 - 1936 the architect Christian Ludwig, Emerich Spitzer and Augustine Danielis for Bratislava businessman and butcher Rudolf Manderla, who was inspired by slaughterhouses in Chicago.

It is the first habitable high-rise building in Slovakia and it is naturally named after Rudolf Manderla. Reaches a height of 45 meters. At the time of the construction, it was the highest building in Czechoslovakia.

Rudolf Manderla (* July 10, 1884, Blumentál, Bratislava - † 1968, Vienna) was a butcher and businessman of German nationality, who lived in Bratislava. In the years 1933 - 1935 he built the first high-rise building in Bratislava - business and residential house Manderla.

Rudolf Manderla was the grandson of the brother of the founder family butchery company, Andreas Manderla, who founded the company in 1866. The family, along with the rest of the German population after World War II was deported from the Czechoslovakia and his assets were nationalized. They settled in Austria. The family business was incorporated into the national company - Zapadoslovenska meat industry Bratislava.
