"Mestský hrad alebo Starý zámok je zachovalý hradný komplex v Banskej Štiavnici. Nachádza sa v centre mesta na úpätí vrchu Paradajs vo výške 630 m n. m. a vznikol na prelome 15. a 16. storocia prestavbou a opevnením farského kostola. Dnes slúži ako sídlo vlastivedného múzea a Slovenské banské múzeum."

The formation of the Old Castle, which is documented in 1486, preceded damage of already partially fortified basilica by soldiers of Simon Rozgoniho in 1442. Burned church suffered further damage even in strong earthquake in 1443, so the time to accede to its reconstruction. From 1495 to 1515 the church was rebuilt to basilica and fortifications were added rounded bastions and openings for guns. Fortification of complementary ditch and rampart, which were completed after increasing Turkish threat, which also changed the whole remodeling complex. A significant hardening walls basilica was founded defensive fortress - town castle, which was supposed to protect mining town.
