This shelter is designed as a six sided dome supported by artificial palm trees. Palm branches are attached to the outer edges of the trees as if the palms were crudely cut at the point the dome was attached. Trees, dome and all the other artistic components are of rusted steel. The back and sides of the shelter are walled by arched screens providing shade but allowing air flow. Above the screens and below the dome the artist has created a screen of leaves to provide more shade. Atop the dome the cardinal directions are marked and a miniature tree surmounts a ball. The artist is Joe Tyler and the structure was commissioned by the City of Mesa in 2002.
