Baroque Kuceruv palác (Kucera´s Palace), located at Pohorelec district in vicinity of Prague Castle, is one of many originally medieval burgherhouses reshaped in Renaissance/Baroque period into luxury town residencies.
The current appearance of this late Baroque palace, known also under names (U Zlaté lodi, U Demartinu / At the Golden Ship, At Demartinis), is a result of numerous adaptations of a former Gothic burgherhouse. The last was late Baroque reconstruction in 1765-1769 followed by adding of the striking Rococo stucco façade in 1775–1780.
The building was converted into a hotel in 1955-1959, but insensitive changes of that period were undone in the 1990´s. The house has been owned by noble families Kolowrat and Vrbna among other, later also by the Italian Demartini family of chimney-sweepers who held the privilege to "sweep imperial chimneys". Other owners included imperial officer J. Kucera (who financed the Baroque reconstruction), known for his friendly relations with L. van Beethoven.
