Facts Oklahoma City
"Oklahoma City is the capital of the state of Oklahoma and is also the state's largest city. It was founded on April 22, 1889. The city grew to 10,000 people almost overnight after the U.S. Government opened up the former Indian Territory to settlers. Over the years, the city grew at an impressive rate thanks to the discovery of oil in the area. As a result the city's skyline grew, including a "race to the top" with the simultaneous construction of First National Center and City Place in the downtown area. More modern skyscrapers like The 360 at Founders Plaza began appearing on the north and west sides of town over the years and eventually in the downtown core. On April 19, 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed, killing 168 people and devastating the lives of thousands. In May 1999, the city, known for tornadoes and thunderstorms, had a tornado rated F5 which tore a path of destruction through the southside suburbs of Norman , Moore and Midwest City . Today, the city is a testament to success in civic planning." Text Source" (visit link)
