The I-30 runs east from its junction with the I-20 on the far west side of Fort Worth TX to its dead end at the junction of the 1-40 in North Little Rock AR. It is the shortest US interstate with a double-digit numerical designation ending in 0.
The end of the I-30 is like so much else on this odd road: nondescript and unmarked. It comes without even a sign proclaiming its end. Only two signs pointing east and west on I-40 clue you in to the change in highway, at the last mile of the I-30.
Mama Blaster grew up near the I-30 in Fort Worth, when the part between Fort Worth and Dallas was the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike. The tolled part of the Turnpike began at a 12-lane toll booth right outside of her old neighborhood, and ended just before I-30 (then known as I-20) crossed the Trinity River on the west side of Dallas.
Mama Blaster remembers that after the toll booths were removed in 1978, it got a LOT quieter, since 18-wheelers no longer had to stop at the FW toll booth. No more 18-wheelers braking!! HEAVEN!!!
Mama Blaster has lost track of how many times she has travelked this road, since her mom lived in the home in White Lake Hills until 2012, and still owns it today (2015). For more on the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike, see here: (
