Chippers Leap is on the northern side of Great Eastern Highway and comprises a large granite outcrop which rises approximately 7 or 8 metres high above the edge of the road.
In February 1832, when carter John Chipper and twelve year old Reuben Beacham were attacked by aborigines on the Old York Road, to the north of the rock outcrop,with Reuben being killed and John Chipper speared in one arm and having a spear sticking in his side,leapt off the rocks,that now bear his name, to escape and running to get help
A plaque was unveiled by his grandson on the centenery of the leap
