Free-standing "Target" column is standing in second courtyard of Topkapi palace in Istanbul. It was erected to commemorate Selim III's shooting of a jug at the target in distance 898 metres, using a rifle.

Selim III's Target Column

Free-standing "Target" column is standing in second courtyard of Topkapi palace in Istanbul. It was erected to commemorate Selim III's shooting of a jug at the target in distance 898 metres, using a rifle.

Column was brought to Topkapi Palace Museum from the Levend Ciftligi, which was the drill-ground of Nizam-i Jadid soldiers.

The inscription of 10-couplet poem glorifies the dexterity of Selim lll's shooting. The poem's author is Ibrahim Nashid Bey, son of Captain Ratip Ahmet Pasha.
