The decoration of British Telecom street side junction boxes is part of an initiative by Southwark Council in the Borough and Bankside areas. Funding from Borough & Bankside Community Council's "Cleaner Greener Safer" scheme is being used to make these boxes more attractive and to try and deter graffiti and fly posters.
The utility box is against a wall/window with the reflection in the window indicating that the back of the box is not decorated. The work is entitled "Orange Box" and gives the appearance of looking down into two boxes of oranges stacked side-by-side. The ends of the utility box and the top are painted to represent the wood of the orange boxes.
