The decoration of British Telecom street side junction boxes is part of an initiative by Southwark Council in the Borough and Bankside areas. Funding from Borough & Bankside Community Council's "Cleaner Greener Safer" scheme is being used to make these boxes more attractive and to try and deter graffiti and fly posters.
The utility box is against a wall so it is doubtful that the back is decorated. The work is entitled "Spices" so it comes as no surprise that the images show spices. The image starts on the front of the box and wraps around to the ends and on to the top. A nice, blue background is used to show the (mainly) brown spices.
