For years Nelson had had an indoor skate park in the downtown area, but in May of 2014, their outdoor park finally opened in Art Gibbon Memorial Park, in the Rosemont area of Nelson, on the far southwest side of the city. It's a great park, with most every type of feature seen in contemporary parks, including a large pipe and a big double bowl.

The skatepark is a major element in Art Gibbon Memorial Park, a Kiwanis project. The Kiwanians weren't alone, however, in the creation of the park, as others, such as the Rotarians, had at least a financial hand in its construction, as is noted by this plaque.
