Unlike the first painted hydrant we found in Sandpoint, which is a Mueller, this one was made by Waterous, once famous for their steam powered fire engines. The
Waterous company has been around since 1866, building all manner of fire fighting paraphernalia, including the first gasoline engine powered pump. They built their last fire engine in 1929, thereafter specializing is such things as this fire hydrant.
Though this isn't by any stretch of the imagination the only fire hydrant in downtown Sandpoint, it appears to be the only one to have been disguised as a Dalmation, the iconic fire fighting dog.
