The original Jacobs ladder was constructed of timber in 1909 with 274 steps on the 46m descent form Mt Eliza, in 1961 it was demolished due to it being too dangerous to use. Some years later it was rebuilt using concrete steps and with 18 landings where you can admire the view over Perth Water whilst getting your breathe back.
These days it is looked on as challenge to run up and down the steps, many can be seen here during daylight hours as their trainers stay at the top and shout encouragements to keep going
