Ymir really began in 1893 when the Fort Shepherd and Nelson Railroad came through Ymir. Rich gold, silver and lead strikes were made in the area around the same time and by 1904 Ymir had blossomed to a town of 1100 with eleven hotels, a bank, post office, church, public school offering grades 1-10, newspaper (The Ymir Miner), police station with a jail, blacksmith shop, mine recording office, mining engineer and assayer, mining broker, notary public, barber, plumber, physician and surgeon, two hardware stores and a P. Burns & Co butcher shop.
You'll notice the lack of a community hall in that list, its gap being filled by no less than 11 hotels, each, no doubt, with a saloon. We have no information as to when the hall was build, but the photo of it, below, was taken in the 1950s.
