Will Rogers (11/4/1879-8/15/1935) is beloved by Americans across the nation. Here, at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum are numerous memorial plaques offered by various groups to honor this man.
On the south wall of the museum, under a portico, this black granite memorial was placed by the Freemasons of Oklahoma on the 133rd anniversary of Will Rogers' birth. It shows a laser engraving of Will Rogers in his classic pose, with a coil of rope in his left hand, and scratching behind his ear with the right. The plaque reads:
Brother William Penn Rogers
The best loved man in the world
Will petitioned Claremore
Lodge No. 53, Ancient Free and
Accepted Masons, to become a
member on January 21, 1905,
On March 13, 1906 he became
a Master MasonOn the 100th anniversary of his
birth, Claremore Lodge No. 53
officially changed its name to
Will Rogers Lodge No. 53 in
commemoration of his service
to mankind.
Brother Rogers lived the
Masonic values of honor, integrity,
virtue, and compassion.
There s no way to estimate
the number of lives he touched.
Our hope is that the memory
of Brother Will Rogers will
always inspire Oklahomans to
emulate his example.
