On a lawn near the new portal of Frankfurt's main cemetery there is a statue of "Adam" made by the German figure sculptor Georg Kolbe

Kolbe's bronze figure is 3m high and stands on a 1m high podestal. It shows a male nude person standing. Supposedly, this represents man ("adam") standing between life and death.

Kolbe executed important commissions throughout his long career, including many for the National Socialists during the last 15 years of his life, although he reportedly refused invitation to sculpt a portrait of Adolf Hitler. The Nazis appropriated his late style of monumental, idealized athletic nudes.
