This NGS benchmark is located on the side of a former hotel in the city of Montague.

I recovered this U.S. Geological Survey from 1907 in good condition. This BM is also listed on a topography map as 'BM C 34 779.5'. The disk face contains multiple stampings including the elvation stamping of '2538' and two letter 'B's and the number '1' in addition to the year '1907'. The NGS datasheet's last good log is adequate for recovery. The NGS posted coordinates are off but my accurate coordinates will place you very close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1952 AT MONTAGUE. AT MONTAGUE, AT THE INTERSECTION OF ELEVENTH AND WEBB STREETS, SET VERTICALLY IN THE NORTH FACE OF THE MONTAGUE HOTEL BUILDING (A BRICK AND STUCCO BUILDING), 2.8 FEET HIGHER THAN THE SURFACE OF THE GROUND, AND 1.5 FEET WEST OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING. NOTE-- THE FIGURE 1 IS ALSO STAMPED ON THIS MARK ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN THE M AND BM AND THE Y OF SURVEY.
