Located west on Memorial Church in a small courtyard is a circular concrete bench that contains a granite footing. Within this footing is an inscription, done in a metallic serif font that reads:

~ For the troubled may you find peace ~ For the despairing may you find hope ~ For the lonely may you find love ~ For the skeptical may you find faith ~ 1941 Frances C. Arrillaga 1995.

After doing some online research on Frances Arrillaga I discovered that she was a well-known philanthropist and benefactor of Stanford University as well as many other community outreach programs in Palo Alto. She passed away in 1995 from lung cancer. She and her surviving husband, John Arrillaga, both graduated from Stanford. Her husband named and dedicated the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center in her memory.

In 2013 John Arrillaga, also a major philanthropist, wrote a check for $131 million to Stanford University, the largest single donation to the University in its history. He is worth almost $2 billion dollars from Real Estate ventures throughout Santa Clara County.
