Die Walhalla bei Regensburg
Vor den Toren der Welterbestadt Regensburg, 10 km Donau abwärts, hat sich der bayerische König Ludwig I kunstvoll verwirklicht. Er lies den Architekten Leo von Klenze eine Ruhm- und Ehrenhalle erbauen. Die Walhalla wurde am 18.10.1842 nach 12-jähriger Bauzeit feierlich eröffnet. In der Ruhmeshalle haben viele bedeutende deutsche Persönlichkeiten einen Ehrenplatz erhalten. Diese Ehre wurde ihnen jedoch frühestens 20 Jahre, nach deren Tod zu Teil, denn dies ist eine der festgelegten Bedingungen, die bei einer Aufnahme einer Person zu beachten ist. Die deutsche und europäische Geschichte wird von 128 Marmorbüsten und 64 Tafeln eindrucksvoll bezeugt. Aber nicht nur der Innenraum mit verschiedenartigen Marmor Platten und Reliefs ist sehenswert, auch der Außenbereich ist sehr beeindruckend. Über 358 Treppen erreicht der Besucher diesen eindrucksvollen Tempel, mit seinem riesigen Eingangsportal. Von hier hat man eine herrliche Aussicht über die Donau mit ihren weiten Auen. Bei schönem Wetter verweilen Jung und Alt auf den Stufen der Walhalla und lassen diese einzigartige Kulturlandschaft auf sich wirken.
