Kostel stojí na míste puvodního, který v roce 1421 zapálili a rozborili husité. / The church is standing at place of older church destroyed by Hussites in 1421.

Puvodní kostel byl zasvecen svatému Petrovi. K jeho obnove došlo až v roce 1453 a bylo stanoveno, že kostel bude spravován cisterciáky z Velehradského kláštera. Nejpozdeji od 16. století byl kostel zasvecen sv. Václavu, patronu ceské zeme. K poslední velké prestavbe došlo v roce 1791.
