This small cemetery would have escaped our attention completely except for the obelisk placed in a small round plot near the entrance to the cemetery.

The carving on the obelisk reads as follows:

"To the memory of their comrades who died in Bermuda of pneumonia, during the month of April 1916. This monument has been erected by all ranks of the 4th Battalion, British West Indies Regiment."

According to the Find-A-Grave website, there are 18 burials here. (visit link)

"Cemetery notes and/or description:

Located west of Watford Bridge, the cemetery contains 13 Commonwealth war graves from WW1. Among them are West Indians and Canadians and three Bermudians of the Bermuda Militia Artillery, who died of accidental injuries in 1915. The cemetery was consecrated in 1903 and the latest memorial is dated 1918. Located off Mangrove Bay Road, immediately west of Watford Bridge behind bus stop"

The cemetery has been listed on the Bermuda National Trust.

The British West Indies Regiments were made up of mostly black soldiers recruited from the Caribbean nations of Bermuda, Jamaica, British Giuana, the British Virgin Islands, Trinidad, and other British possessions in ther area. See here for more: (visit link)
