In Gedenken an die verstorbenen Juden in dem KZ wurde dieses Denkmal errichtet.
Es ist eine große Bronzeskulptur die an den jüdischen Leuchter erinnert.
Das aus Initiative der Gedenkstätte Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, errichtete Jüdische Denkmal wurde 1976 enthüllt.

Das Konzentrationslager Mauthausen war das größte Konzentrationslager der Nationalsozialisten auf dem Gebiet Österreichs, der damaligen Donau- und Alpenreichsgaue. Es befand sich 20 Kilometer östlich von Linz in Mauthausen und bestand vom 8. August 1938 bis zu seiner Auflösung nach der Befreiung seiner Insassen durch US-amerikanische Truppen am 5. Mai 1945. Im KZ Mauthausen und seinen Nebenlagern sind rund 100.000 Menschen ums Leben gekommen. Auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Konzentrationslagers befindet sich seit 1947 eine Mahn- und Gedenkstätte der Republik Österreich.
